Photos with a man's glace

Today, I crossed a photo exhibition at Gallerian in Stockholm, Sweden. The photos were fantastic with great quality and actuality. The themes were chocking; killings, natural and environmental catastophies etc., all over the world. I´ve never seen as many dead people in my life on different scenes as today. The photos were chosen by World Press, sponsored by Canon. The aim, I believe, was to sell more Canon cameras.

About 80-90 procent of the pictures were taken by men. Most of them showed men. As far as I could see, only three women were represented with their pictures in the exhbition. The women mainly focused on problems connected with family, like mulitation and abortion. Men showed the "important" issues, like the great problems of the world (not women's problems).

Two of threee in the jury of World Press, which had chosen the pictures, consisted of men.

Who defines what is news? Men or women? In my life, both the outer and inner world consists of news. The exhibition seemed to focus mainly on the outer world, men's world.

This is an exhibition of men for men is my impression. Therefore, Canon feels like a company addressing men and also producing cameras for men.

What is the view of World Press and Canon on this issue?
